I don't think it matters where you work, but it is your service and attitude towards customers that will earn you a tip. TIP stands for 'to insure promptness' so that is one way you can work to increase your tips. Are you hustling? Are you busting your butt to get all of your orders into the chef, and again, when the orders are ready are you right there to bring the customer the food when it is still hot?
I know that when my server brings my food quickly and the order is correct and it is still hot, I definitely give that person at least a 15-20% tip.
If you are personable/friendly with the customers when you first introduce yourself ~ you don't want to start a long conversation, but in general say something nice about your customers, they aways like that!
Try to resolve ANY problems that may arise. If there is a problem with the food, the customer is always right -- fix it right away. Make things right for the customer and I am certain that your tip will reflect your wonderful service.
Remember - A smile goes a long way.
Good luck!

WH is my favorite restaurant (loooooove my 'scattered, covered and chunked'!!!). As for tips -- I know that personally, no matter where I go, I tip on service - the better the service, the better the tip. Essentially, if you do bare minimum work, I'll leave the bare minimum tip -- the 15-20% that is "required." However, if you pay attention and: refill drink glasses, occasionally check up without being bothersome, are friendly - or even better, humorous - when you speak to me/us, then you'll find your tip goes up. Also, if the order is delayed for some reason, or if you notice the party just sitting there waiting -- be sure to talk to them, let them know what's going on, and apologize if need be. A little courtesy goes a LOOOONG way!
I have tipped over 100% of the order cost. (Granted, that was before I had to pay for a family of four, lol.) On the other hand, I have received service so bad that I have left a penny - indicating that I had not forgotten a tip - but was horrified at the service, and let the server know it.
And, having been a server myself -- I know that if you truly just pay attention to your customers, and are friendly, you'll do just fine.

I have worked for Waffle House for a long time. Now I am out on a medical leave and have no clue how I am going to pay my bill. If any one has any ideas it would really help. Waffle House has not offered any help at all.

I've been a waitress and found that I got bigger tips if I refilled water glasses, bread, and coffee cups. Checked back to be sure everything was OK at each table. And got better service from the kitchen if I shared my tips with the cooks.

I dont think so...the clientel at a waffle house are not usually big tippers....Besides...how big of a tip can you expect when the average bill is under ten dollars.
I always leave a five dollar bill regardless of the check amount, I know how hard you girls have to work.
With your waitressing experience....cant you move up to one of the classier resturants?

work at a more exspensive restaurant where the rich people go and maybe you can get a better and bigger tip. I'm not wealthy but if I have been treated well by the waiter/waitress I'm going to leave a handsome tip for them.

Be friendly. Chat with the customers that want to chat. Flirt with the guys who hit on you. Take the orders and bring the food as best you can. Go that extra step for your customers.

Be extra nice to the drunks that come in after being out at the bars. They may be so drunk that they don't realize they're giving away more money than they normally would.
