Howard, Ortiz among Home Run Derby hopefuls
Ryan Howard, who leads the major leagues in home runs, is one of eight players who will compete in the All-Star Home Run Derby next Monday.

The Phillies' Howard who has hit 28 home runs this season, will be joined by Mets third baseman David Wright. Brewers slugging outfielder Carlos Lee was expected to represent the National League, but he has been playing with a sore hand since mid-June and opted Monday night not to participate.
The American League competitors will be led by Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, who is second in the Junior Circuit with 26 homers. The White Sox's Jermaine Dye and Toronto's Troy Glaus. also will represent the AL. Lance Berkman will take Carlos Lee Spot
Two more players yet to be named, also will compete in the derby, which will be televised on ESPN.
