Who says it's "such a crime?"

Actually it's traceable to a law passed in the southern US in 1937, which was intended mostly to punish the "low-lifes" who smoked weed and played jazz. Oddly, these were not the same social or economic class as the folks who were brewing Demon Alcohol. In both cases, it was religion-based temperance movements who tried to shut down the operations by having national laws passed outlawing the substances, but the richer brewers fought back, whereas the marijuana producers really didn't have the economic wherewithal to put up a fight.

Of course, this is all in the same country where we have to tell people NOT to microwave their pets. jeez

I recall learning that the legislation to outlaw marijuana was heavily lobbied for by J. Edgar Hoover. He also worked hard to criminalize tax evasion and possession of liquor during prohibition. These and other "vice" activities were and still remain the bread and butter for organized crime. It also justified the existence and the nationwide jurisdiction the FBI had.

Maybe you ought to look at what happens in the distribution channel. People kill each other over it, kill their workers if they think they did something, kill people trying to smuggle it.... the product has a very high body count.

Then take a look at the stupid things people do while stoned. If you think it's just an herb, your brain is already fried.

Because people remain ignorant about it. I stoped smoking years ago but would recommend it over alcohol anytime.

if it was legal then it would be taxed like everything else and the government would get rich off it and that would be the crime.
