II am currently looking at the black Apple Macbook 2GHz- Is this any good? I'm in college will use the laptop primarily for email, music, papers, and research. I have a Gateway now that is a total piece of crap and have not had luck with Dells either.

The mac with the intel chip may be perfect for you - easy to use and can run windows or Mac OS ~ The best of both worlds. Not to sound like a Mac commerical, but they are easy to use and have a good track record for both battery life and quality. I have had both - macs and PCs and much prefer the mac.

If you have had only PC experience, you may not find the mac to your liking, so I would go to a store (mac or mac retailer) and try it out for a while. I would also recommend getting wireless internet in whatever laptop you get -

i am currently using the MacBook Pro 17" and it is a very solid performer. I do quite a bit of music and video and video graphics work and i have been impressed with the speed of this machine because it seems to be quite a bit faster than my dual 2gig G5. I know you would do well to get the 15" model. Besides video graphics needs I purchased the 17" because it has a dual layered DVD burner. (the built-in isight camera is great!!)
This is the most solid and reliable machine I've ever owned. I am considering selling my G5 desktop because well.. I love this one so much i use it all the time.
When you buy your 15" also get and extra power supply and an Airport Express wireless base station, it goes everywhere and is very compact and gives you the ability to play iTunes into your stereo wirelessly.

Apple, plus get their protection plan. I dropped my mac down 6 concrete stairs only thing that broke was the CD drive, they fixed it for free. The screen went out after a year (had the protection plan) they fixed it free no problem. Everything you can do a PC you can do on a mac.

I say, if you don't want to run many games, but want a stable computer, and want stuff like photo editing, movies, and sound recording, get a mac, no question.

But if you want to play games, and do other stuff, and want a flexible system that's easily upgradeable, build your own pc

the macbooks are awesome btw.

GET THE MACBOOK. or, if you need more power, there is the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro is a little pricier though.
