North Korea confirmed that they launched seven test missiles, two of which were long range. All of them fell into the Sea of Japan. There has been tension between the US and N. Korea for decades since N. Korea is communist. Kim Jong Il has been threatening nuclear weapons for a while and the US has always paid him off. He claims he is trying to strengthen self defense for his country. Japan, the US, and Britain, published a resolution that would ban any country from transferring funds, material and technology that could be used in North Korea's missile and weapons of mass destruction programs. China and Russia are pushing for a different resolution without sanctions because they fear that sanctions would push N. Korea to continue launching missiles, there are four on launch pads now, and ruin any chance of resuming the six-party talks. While the missiles failed they could very easily reach the US, Japan, and S. Korea.

We are living in scary times.

The technology to create a delivery system which could carry the payload of a nuclear device over 6,000 miles is years away for the North Koreans. Obviously Japan should be, and is, much more worried than the U S. China and Russia will be sideline players in this scenario. The N K's have scud missiles already and they can easily be fired into South Korea. China is using its leverage to try to soften the U S position vis a vis Taiwan (Their 'one China' policy.) N K is a nuisance which must be dealt with diplomatically. Let's see how this administration handles this situation. It is certainly a provocation, but by no means, a crisis.

North Korea fired a test missle July 5th capable of reaching the US if armed with a nuclear weapon. The missile fell into the Sea of Japan 42 seconds after launch. If they develop this they can reach Alaska or the West Coast with a nuclear weapon. This missile was not nuclear. It was just a test to see if they could shoot it. They claim theyre are developing this to defend against us or our allies attacking them. They also fired some short to medium range missiles that could be capable of hitting our allies. None of these missiles were armed.
