Try putting some garden lime on the worst spots, but time itself will heal the grass. I did this, too, as I didn't distribute the fertilizer evenly, and it took a few months, but it did go away on its own (and I didn't put garden lime on it.)

First, did you spread it by hand or a hand crank feeder? Lesson 1. Don't fertilize without a spreader. Water it more, but in even cycles, especially now in the summer.

water it and do not cut too low. if sunlight hits the root of grass it kills it. and if it is a little longer the water will not evaporate so fast so more of it gets to the lawn.

Aw, shucks - you'll have to water & water to try to wash the excess fertilizer off; remove the dead parts & add new seed if the dead patches are large - but keep watering !
