Amerigo Vespucci gets the credit in the history books, but there were already native Americans living here then, and the vikings almost certainly made visits before the Spanish or Portuguese. Christopher Columbus discovered the West Indies and South America, but he never set foot on North America (I think, you might want to check me on that).

Even though the country had been inhabited by Indians for many centuries, Christopher Columbus has became famous as the man who "discovered" America in 1492. However, he was not even the first European to reach the North American continent. The first Europeans, the Vikings, arrived in North America in the 11th century. They had settlements in parts of present-day Canada for a short while, but their presence in America went by quite unnoticed.

Bloodthristy Nordic Tribes were the first to sail the distant waters to the west.

Lost Nomads from The Far Eastern Steppes were the first to cross from the narrow portal through the Sea of Ice and call it their home.

The Mercantilist Sailors of the Old World were the first to claim the New World in the names of their Royal Majesties' honor.

How you interpret the above statements is entirely up to you. ;)
