The viking longboats had no toilets so they crapped over the side.After many years of this the floating mass of crap was discovered by Columbus and became known as america.

Amerigo Vespucci gets the credit in the history books, but there were already native Americans living here then, and the vikings almost certainly made visits before the Spanish or Portuguese. Christopher Columbus discovered the West Indies and South America, but he never set foot on North America (I think, you might want to check me on that).

However, he was not even the first European to reach the North American continent. The first Europeans, the Vikings, arrived in North America in the 11th century. They had settlements in parts of present-day Canada for a short while, but their presence in America went by quite unnoticed.
