The people who vanish without a trace are those who have loved ones, co-workers, secret admirers & creditors!

If you live a thoroughly reclusive life without any modern conveniences, then of course no-one will know you're missing.. because you already vanished without a trace some years before!

Oleg B..my heart goes out to you; I truly hope you discover the truth & find some peace in the near future!

"Without a trace" is not literal. Obviously someone knew they existed, or no one would miss them. "Without a trace" simply means they have gone somewhere to where they cannot be tracked. The "missing" part is relative to those who knew that person even existed. IE, I don't know you. If you had a dog disappear, to me the dog isn't missing because I didn't even know it existed. If you can't find it, and you can't even find foot prints to where it may have gone, then, relatively speaking from your point of view, your dog went missing without a trace.

vanished without a trace refers to the fact that no evidence points to where they may be, it doesn't mean that no one hasn't realized that they are gone.

That happen with my father, the most peaceful man, in 1982, in most peaceful time , in most peaceful country...Till now there is a confusion within, not dead , not alive....missing...no trace...I do not know within and know according to a fact....horrible feeling...not knowing dismiss the fact and fact dismiss not knowing... internal contradiction.

Everything is a trace.

You should look up Jacques Derrida's ideas on differance.
