Some people don't realize that there is more to life than material possesions. Although it is fun to have a lot of clothes, cars, etc, they only supply happiness for a little while. People want more and more stuff to keep feeling that happiness, I guess. I like all the winking smiley faces in your question! ;)

Some people are bred that way... born so to speak. Most of the time, though, its a learned behavior. A good example: Spoiling kids. There are several things people do to spoil their kids and the result is selfishnes. A kid not sharing, or having everything he or she asks for, or having everything done for them, or having too much. It teaches them the wrong things. Parents can even teach them that the world owes them... you've heard that before! Some kids will take these messages differently; misconstrue them and such. What affects one kid one way may not the other, but most of it's learned behavior and too many parents are NOT teaching the right things. They want their kids to have better? Did THEY turn out so bad? If they didn't, maybe the kids don't need better... maybe they need to learn some lessons, too.

Sometimes, there are people who are innately afraid of going without of life's necessities. So, the best way they can keep them so if they do not share anything with others. How do they get afraid? Generally, from childhood experience of having nothing, once they experienced the ugliness of having nothing, they just do not want to go through it again.
Actually, the reasons that some people are selfish, varies from one and the next, we can only hope they outgrow it because it is such a nasty attitude to have.

What makes aperson selfish? Immoral up bringing, selfish controlling parents and siblings. Poor upbringing. Ignorance about the law and or of the constitution. Would you believe, not all people are aware of , The Freedom Of Choice?

Not to sound misanthropic, but all people are inherently selfish, and always act accordingly. Even Mother Theresa was a selfish woman--she derived pleasure from helping others and self-sacrifice, and was comforted by what she felt was an assured place in heaven. All acts of "self-sacrifice" and "selflessness" ultimately make people happy, in one way or another.

i have to agree that selfishness is mostly a learned behaviour. it's not just about possessions, it's about how this person sees his/her position in other people's lives. and if it's about how that, then it comes down to security and self confidence.
if a child equates being given something with being loved, then when he/she doesn't get something, he/she will feel unloved. so when people give in to the child and say 'ok, no, you don't have to share that' or 'ok, if you ask me 4 times for something and eventually start screaming at me for it, i'll give it to you' then the child knows he/she is loved and that he/she is the centre of this person's universe.
i think selfishness is something you see more often in people without brothers or sisters or in the youngest kids in a family - the ones with less expectations on them, or the ones who don't have to fight to be heard i guess.

it is impossible say it is humans nature...because when we born we are like clear paper.our parents and comunity and environment makes us to act in a particular way and when we are adult we can think(it is not a good thinking).
first af all at that age we dont have good experiment in life .second most of that thinkings depend on our previous growing up.
