the early applications of Communism used totalitarian powers or had authoritarian tendencies that tend to restrict human thought and independent thinking.... most of all, they gooble up private corporations (which America and the Cold War "West" have heavily invested in)

it is not really Communism that US hates, but the "communists" who hijack the Communist vision to proliferate their party's agenda of domination and monopoly of both political and economic development

As the first two answers demonstrate blatantly, Americans were taught to believe that communism stands against everything that any reasonable man would strive for, and of course, Americans consider the "American way of life" as the most reasonable.
Now this leads to the fact that even though Communist ideology might have been completely wrong, you will never understand why through the prejudice of those grown up in the cold war.
Fiction aside, and in short, communism was built on the idea that the fact that some had the means of producing goods and other only had their labor force was unfair for the latter, so the former had to give up their factories and let them be run by those that worked there. Naturally this also meant that the State had to control production, wages, consumer prices, etc. Concentrate domestic product and distribute it "evenly".
History proved this doesn't work, not only because it requires an enormous amount of bureaucracy but mainly because production stagnates, since people are left with almost no liberty and have little to strive for.

History didn't prove this.
Agrarian revolutions like USSR, Cuba, China are not ideal.
Marx saw communism developing naturally from capitalism, and fully industrialized landscapes. The Bolsheviks just used Marxism as an excuse to organize the peasants to feed their fat bellies. But it's not at all a simple affair, and not at all "disproven". Theoretically the communist society is more efficient than our own. And as time passes, and the science of marxism -- which is alway in practice and open to the prevailing ideologies of the era-- develops, the closer we will get to liberating the vast majority from ridiculous amounts of unnecessary oppression.

Reactionary culture just galvanizes the movement.

It's really unstoppable unless you burn books and pull some 1984 dystopia disinformation tactics.

How will the 1% who own the productive apparatus ... Be able to continue to endlessly justify their reign over the 99%...

Well Communism is all about not having a singular government, but rather the people all share power equally. See Marx wanted equality among everyone, rich and poor, black and white, etc. But, the US is ignorant because they see totalitarianism under the guise of communism and they feel that if that came here then we'd be in big trouble, so we try to stop it.

Hope this helps.

If you want to know ask the Cuban community. I think that you have been living out of the world if you are so ignorant as to ask that question, and no, the USA don't hate it. If it hated it, it would have been done something to eliminate it, not talking, talking, talking like an old woman critizicing her neighbor.
They have allowed fidel kastro at 90 miles from them, and they have done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to eliminate it, in spite of fidel doing them all the harm it could for almost 50 years.
What were they waiting ? fidel coming to take over the white house ?

Excuses and excuses, just to dominate, control, and manipulate by slandering.

It is like someone come to your house and tell you how they should run their family, how they should teach their kids, how they should manage their money, how they should walk, talk, sleep, eat.... all *shoulds* are a hint of a sick mind.
If I were the householder, I'd say, " Mind your own business!!"

You are told what job you will have and if you disagree you are sent to prison. If your father was a pig farmer, than that is what you will be until your death. The only option you have is to join the military or defect to another country under penalty of death. No freedom of religion.
