Can I just take it into a computer place to have this done? I keep getting the message that memory is low, but I don't want to delete anything. I want to keep it all.

If your hard drive is getting full, you can have it replaced with a bigger one, and all your data copied to the new hard drive.

Technically this is not the same as computer "memory", which is an electronic work area your computer uses.

Memory can be upgraded too, but the problem you are having is probably related to hard drive space.

Yes, a computer repair place can do this work for you. Cost will probably be $150 to $200. Be sure to get them to copy all your data too.

The Hard Drive has nothing to do with your low memory messages. Think of a computer like a car. The seats are the hard drive That's where the people (or files) go. The memory is the fuel in the gas tank.

Right now your tank is only so big, so it only hold's so much fuel. When you upgrade your memory you aren't getting more seats, but a larger gas tank, so your car will run at full speed longer... not hold more people. Do you understand?

Take your computer to Best Buy to the geek squad counter and tell them you would like to upgrade the Ram on your computer. Tell them you're unsure how much you have but you want to go with at least 1 gigabyte. They will understand what you mean and can help you.

It is time to upgrade your computer or buy a new one. You can expand the virtual memory but it won't do you any good. You can add memory (maybe), depends on your motherboard (capacity) and processor. You can transfer all your stuff to a new drive or keep the one you have, I would get all new! How old is your current computer? My guess is it is older than 4 yrs. old. NEW is the answer and be picky about what you get, if you are not sure how to pick a computer, get help, they change so fast you want something that will stay up to date as long as possible, spend the money, don't buy cheap!!!!!
DON'T TAKE IT TO GEEK SQUAD! You can buy another computer for what they will charge you in the long run AND it won't be right when you get it back anyway!!!!!!!

Yep. You can cheaply buy memory from Amazon or Best Buy and other such places. Kingston is a good brand. I got 512 MB for $50 off Amazon last week. :D You'll have to know if your computer uses DDR memory and stuff like that. Best thing? Call the manufacturer and they will tell you.

BUT..be careful with installation. If you do it wrong and start stuff up, it can blow your motherboard :(

Well, first of all, Hard Drives are just like cd's or dvd's they don't have memory. Your memory is on a chip, called a ram chip. You could take it to a shop, and spend lots of money on it, or you could expand your memory yourself. You can email me and I'll tell you how, or you can wait for others to answer. Could be you have way too many programs running on start, that's easy to fix too, but to tell you how, I'd have to know your OS. If you have Win 98, it's simple, if you have XP, then it's a little more complicated. I'm at ronscott1951@ yahoo.com or netscape.com either one, and I can tell you instructions via email.

Your problem might be related to RAM, but just in case you need more HD space. Just buy an external HD.They are dirt cheap and will work just as well.

If you have a friend that knows something about computers, have him/her take a look at it. You might get ripped off if you take it in someplace. ( i'm speaking from experience.)

Does it say virtual memory is low, or you are running out of disk space? the former means that you need more RAM, the second means you need a bigger or additional disk drive.

It's NOT your hard drive that gives that error, it's your actual ram memory. Go to crucial.com and dollow their memory advisor tool to add memory. You dont have to delete anything.
