I am trying to install a new printer but i keep getting the same error message (cannot install this hardware.....the specified port is unkown).
by the way that's the second printer that i am trying to install, in the beginning i thought that the first printer was deffective so i got another one, yet still getting the same message.
please note that the computer is recognizing the usb cable and the little icon is showing on the toolbar, i also used that usb port for other hardware (camera) and it works fine.
i tried to plug the printer in other usb cable but still having the same error.
any help please.

go to control panel, system, hardware, and scroll down the list till you find the ports, setting, and click on it, and see if anything else is using that port.

You may also have to install the drivers, BEFORE connecting up the printer, then re-boot, and the computer should find it automatically

Unless you are not installing the drivers and software first before plugging in the printer, I don't know.

Have you turned the printer on when you are trying to install it? It needs to be on so your computer can recognize it.

Go o my computer and right click. Click computer management and see if Universal Serial Bus has a + beside it and no orange exclamation marks under it.
