A Little something to put things in perspective...
After a forest fire in
Yellowstone National Park
the forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage.
One ranger found a bird
literally petrified in ashes,
perched statuesquely on the
ground at the base of a tree.
Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight,
he knocked over the bird with a stick.
When he gently struck it,
three tiny chicks scurried from
under their dead mother's wings.
The loving mother,
keenly aware of impending disaster,
had carried her offspring to the base
of the tree and had gathered them
under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise.
She could have flown to safety but
had refused to abandon her babies.
Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body.
The mother had remained steadfast.
She had been willing to die,
so those under the cover of her wings would live.

It is sad that the mother had to die...but, who of us would do less? It is an inspiration! Ppl should do all to protect (don't confuse with spoil) their children. I told my husband I want to get a gun ( and he is appalled, BTW I live in TX - LOL) to defend my children. I don't think I could harm anyone for myself but if you mess with the "chicks" KA-BAM. I know this is a very violent, aggressive answer to your very inspiring question, which by the way really made me think about the small thinks in life, but I am talking as a mother. A mother, be she bird or human, will do what ever is necessary to protect her young. Well, so we would hope!
That mother in (i think) Washington who shot the guy in court, because he molested her son should be sad I wasn't called for jury duty that day!

Very sad, touching and thought provoking...sometimes we have to stop and realize just how precious life can be, no matter how bitter and cynical either we or others can be. Thanks for sharing.

(Normally, I may have tried to ignore this, but today I needed that moment of reflection.)
