Best question I have ever read...
I for one am sick and tired of all the politician bullshi* that is going on with this country. I'm from NJ and we are facing a budget crisis. Now I am for raising the tax by 1% under the condition that all politicians from NJ take a cut in pay and work for minimum wage but of course that will never happen. If they were to approve such an increase to solve the budget crisis I am sure that within a month the politicians will also vote on giving themselves a raise.

I think that all politicians from all levels of the government should not be allowed to have a raise unless they do their job correctly and also "WE the people" should vote on their raises after all it is OUR taxes that pays their salary...

Small-minded people would rather insult other people because it somehow makes them feel bigger. I say it just demonstrates their stupid, brutish nature. They would rather exasperate a situation rather than find common cause to improve it.

It's also easier for people to just choose a side (and support that side with specious reasoning and potshots at the other side) rather than examine the facts. And because of this apathy, it remains easy for career politicians to stay in office.

I just think it's ironic that everyone likes to rail on the president (they did it to Clinton, they do it to Bush...doesn't matter which party's in power) but no one ever goes after those old crony types who have served in Congress for 40 years...

I vote for the candidate who makes the most sense, whether Democrat, Republican, or some other party. Unfortunately, even the candidate who may SOUND good may turn out to be powerless (or power grabbing) once in office. There is no easy solution.

I don't want to be partizen I want to meet a democrat or indipendant I could feel safe voting for. My problem is I not only judge them based on what they say, but also on their consistancy. If they are saying they are against raising taxes but raised taxes regularly in their last position I can't vote for them. All of the democrats I've seen get into office(Wisconsin) end up breaking all of their promises when they get to office. They don't even pay lip service to it anymore. They they lie that they are keeping their promises on 5pm on friday so they don't have to answer questions on how their statement isn't supported by the data. Only increasing spending by 1% is still increasing spending, not a spending cut.

I am also fed up with Republicans for acting different when they get into office. I hate the ones that want to push ethanol before it's ready to compete in the market.

What most people miss is the power we do have over our elected officials. I have been able to change minds of aldermen. I've been part of changes on the county level. I've even been part of a group of citizens that affected a number of votes on the state level with the representative changing in fear that they would not get reelected. We have the same power at a national level it just takes a much larger number of people to call their representatives. Don't call/write to Bush you are one vote / everyone else in the country. Call your Senators and representatives in the house. You are about 1 in 10,000 to 100,000. Much better odds if you get everyone you know to call in to weigh in on an issue. Maybe would could have a fence between the US and Mexico if more people called telling them separate it from the amnesty issue. We can't deport the billions of them. Why not build a fence and just deport the criminals, since Mexico doesn't want us to imprison them for life or execute them.

Yes, it pisses me off! We are treated like serfs until 6 months before an election and then the name calling begins. We need a solid electable third party or a revolution.
