I do. I give them gift cards to fast food places. I always get a thank you note so I think they appreciate them.

Of course it is proper! I do it every year. Some people do small gift certificates. I make things. The mail carrier gets a bag of warm just baked cookies and a huge mug of hot cocoa. The garbage men get the same. After all, it is cold out there! (I actually watch for them and take it out when they get close by). We always have the Sears maintenance guys come and check the appliances around that time, and they get to have something that has recently been baked as well. I used to give the postal carrier a strudel to take back to the post office, but don't have the time anymore to do that from scratch as studels take a long time! We don't have much money, but I can at least afford a cup of cocoa and some cookies.

I do give small gifts to those who provide good service throughout the year. In the case of my mail carrier, the Post Office regulations only allow gifts of a value less than $20. A small token of your appreciation would always be appropriate at any time of the year.

I do it all the time... the way I see it, is that you have no idea what their holiday is going to be like... you have no idea whether that's going to be the only gift they receive... it could make their day and give them a reason to get out of bed in the morning and smile
just because you have 2 loaves of bread doesn't mean you should keep them... share with someone who needs it!!!

Actually there used to BE a time when people would tip them a few dollars. Barbers/beauticians, mailmen, paperboy, etc. So yeah its appropriate I think & I also feel more people should do it. U dont have to give a wad of money, just a little something. I know money is tight these days which is why alot of people shy away from it but still. My mom does it actually (give tips at Xmas time)

Maybe like, some homemade cookies or brownies, or a card with a little money in it, or an american express gift card which they can use almost anywhere. Something small though, I think they would appreciate anything, it's the thought that counts :)

It is very proper especially for the people that always come by your house: (shwans, ups, fedex, dhl, etc.) I would give them stuff like gift cards and other nice delights. You are such a mature person to want to do such a thing. Your makin' the world a better place. ^_^

You can give gifts to anyone you feel deserves it but bear in mind that some companies frown on it and won't allow the employee to accept the gift.

A token gift or better yet a tip is always appreciated.
Some years if the cash flow is good I tip, other years it might be a box of homemade candy or cookies.

Yes. I think it would be nice to give general gifts to these people. I even tip my barber extra around that time of the year. I mean you don't have to, but its a nice gesture.
