This is a tough one. He's actualy asking you to help him stop lying. Never heard that one before.
There's no way to gauge if he's lying, if he's a pathological lyer.
Unfortunatley, you can't. You have to have him go to a PROFESSIONAL to get him the help he needs. Obviously, something was missing since childhood that was never addressed and his situation may be too deep for you to handle.
Careful! Send him to a doctor and he's should get all the help he needs.

He's telling a lie when he says he wants to stop. Just another way to manipulate you. Some people can't be helped, hold him accountable and next time he lies show him the door.

Take him to a therapist.
My oldest son was the same way, his wife got him in marriage counseling, and the Dr. found out that he was bi-polar, got him on medication and he has done a complete turn around. It has made all the differnce in the world in him.!!

ask your boyfriend whether he loves you or not because a person loving someone doesn't lie. Tell him clearly how much hurt you get when you come to know the truth. He will surely understand your feelings and try avoiding lies.

He needs therapy badly, counseling. If you wish to help him, go with him so you know how to help. Pathelogical liars need medical help. Not like psycho stuff but just like he may need to vent to a counselor about his childhood. Its a disorder that needs to be addressed quickly and professionally.

You should lie to him also and let him find out about you lying to him. Let him have a taste of his own medicine so he will understand the meaning of being cheated.

If he's a pathological liar then how do you know he's telling the truth when he says he wants to get help?

Make him tell the truth each time he lies. Let him know that lies are not what your relationship is about and to survive he has to reverse to improve your relationship. He might grow out of it if you can tell when he is lies.
