The iowa tight ends stand with their hands on their hips when in formation. As far as I know, they are the only team to do this. Why?

It's a type of offense formation. The tight end does not have to be in down position. They probably call him a H-back, like Oklahoma does. They can motion him and put him in the back field in a modern day wishbone. It's just a version of offense that other team use. Mostly in college though.

It's possible that the Tight End in Iowa's offense has to look off certain reads on the defense before knowing what to do on a given pass play. Depending on what he sees, it may be up to him to decide whether he runs a route or stays in to block.

Other teams do it as well. Just a function of the offense. Either the player or coach thinks it helps them or they're doing it just to give the defense a different look. It's like one big chess game, mess with the other guys head and you win the play.

Because he hurt his back in a Pilates class or during ballet dance class. I remember hearing this on the radio during my surgery.
