loving knowledge for it's own sake really is useless. I agree. It's a kind of stewardship and museumification or librarian relationship to ideas. They are to be used. That's the point of learning. But if "what ideas are to be used for" is defined in advance... that's great and all, like an engineer Using his calulus to build a seisomographic retrofitting; but really, there are boundaries to knowledge and if we always accept the status quo we may end up deluding ourselves for centuries before we figure out the equivalent of the earth being round, or the sun being the center of the solar system.

for one thing.. knowledge should serve US, and not vice versa. Whenever we get into a relationship where we, our concerns, thoughts, beliefs, perspectives, wills, wants, desires aren't paramount.. that's a problem.

I can still love knowledge and be useful. any pragmatist will tell you the same. but I'm most certainly not a pragmatist...

Only if they do not take advantage of the knowledge they possess to either a) take over the world or b) make the world a better place.

I would go for a combination of the two. But it's just me.

If they don't do anything and just sit on their behinds all day bitching about how wrong the world is today, then they such just DIE!!! I'm just kidding.

If the knowledge they compile in their lifetime is solely used to show superiority over another, then yes. If the knowledge is used to improve one's lot in life and learn from the mistakes and triumphs of others and to help them understand the world around them, then no....

I have this visual image of Einstein and Confucius breaking big rocks into little rocks to keep busy. I do not believe that to love knowledge is to deserve to be branded useless.

depends if they use the knowledge they accumulate positively or not .
if they love knowledge but ,do not utilize it ,then they are useless

but if they use the knowledge that they have ,in a progressive and helpful way to the overall concept of humanity or the planet and the Environment, then they are OK.

Expalin Loving Knowledge. Do you mean Loving to know, loving to learn, loving wisdom, ...
What types of knowledge? To what extent? Is it for Love's sake or for knowledge sake, or vanity sake?
Is it to better understand uselessness, branding, or people who see it this way?

What difference should it make, if it is true Love?

Of course not. I would like to say this question makes no sense, but sadly, it does. We seem to live in a world were most people do not value the truth. Otherwise we wouldn't have so much war, pollution, poverty, homelessness, global warming, and so on and on.
