Anawim is the plural form of the Hebrew biblical word for the poor or "little ones". What is the singular form? Thanks.

When ענוים is referring to the poor, the singular is עני (pronounced /ani/). The plural of עני is usually writen עניים (pronounced /aniyim/). In several of these occasions when the plural is written with a vav, the word is actually pointed /aniwim/ (for example Isaiah 32:7, Amos 8:4). This is a good example of how vavs can sometimes behave like yods. This is similar to how the feminine singular pronoun /hi/ is sometimes written with vav in Genesis (i.e. Gen 3:12).
