Are they paid for every trip, or by the hour, or a set amount each month?

As I understand it, they are Civil Servants on the government pay scale and get paid exactly as much as any other 'GS-level' worker at the same pay scale.

They probably fill out the same 'travel forms' that other government workers do, and are paid about $100.00 per day when on the ground and traveling between their home institution and some other venue.

They are not paid by the mile traveled, because 1) they are not using their own private cars and 2) they are traveling using government-supplied equipment.

I think their pay scale places them somewhere in the $70,000 to $120,000 per year bracket.

Astronauts are either employees of NASA or a member of the United States Armed Forces.

As such, their regular pay is by the normal means of their respective agencies.

Pay for orbital work is increased, presumably per trip, but that's not really the point for them, is it?

Being able to say that one is an astronaut is much more rewarding than the number of zeroes on your pay stubs.

Several of the astronauts on this mission are in the US Navy. They earn the same pay as all Navy personnel with the same rank and years in service. Those who work for NASA are government employees who also earn the same amount as other NASA employees of the same rank and years in service. One astronaut is from Europe and is paid by the European Space Agency.

They are all salaried employees whose pay is probably alot less than you think it is. They likely consider themselves very lucky to be where they are, and are not in it for the money.

Salary. Meaning a set amount each year. They don't all get paid the same though it depends on wheter they are in active duty or not. Meaning if they are going on missions. Make Sense?

They're probably paid a yearly salary based on seniority. That's just a guess but I would assume that's how it works.

They are paid with our respect and awe for their bravery to face the unknown. And I'm sure a generous monthly paycheck and benefits package.
