I personally don't know about an exact number. J.K. Rowling recently gave an interview to The Richard and Judy Show in the U.K., and they said that enough Harry Potter books had been sold to go around the Equator one and a half times.
J.K. Rowling is the classic literary success story. Who started out as a struggling single mother soon became richer than the Queen.
