"These photos also depict the burned body of what appears to be a woman with blankets thrown over her upper torso," the affidavit said.

Here's my thinking of that-

these photoes also depicit the bured body(to be) appeared[seemed] to be a woman with blankets thrown over her upper torse.

these photoes also depicit the bured body that seems to be a woman with blankets thrown over her upper torse.

These photoes also depicit the burned body of the things which appear[seem] to be a woman with blankets thrown over her upper torse.

These photoes also depicit the burned body of a woman that seemed to be someone putting blankets on her upper torse.

The original is best.

In your first version, you're missing a connector between "body" and "appeared to be a woman".

Second: Usually we don't say a dead (or even living) body IS a person. There's a sense that people are more than just physical beings. (hence the phrase "my body")

Third: "of the things which appear to be a woman"--I guess you're correcting the last error but now you're calling this woman "the things", which is confusing.

Fourth: Now it sounds like the dead woman herself is putting the blankets on her own torso.

I agree that "body of what appears to be a woman" is awkward, but I think the best way to change it would be to split the sentence into two:

These photos also depict (or show) a burned body. It seems to be a woman's body, with blankets thrown over (or just with blankets on) her upper torso.

what if it is paraphrased with properly-spelled words? It would be easier to understand.
