well, they are around, look in grassy areas, do you have any idea what you are doing?? if you need more advice e-mail me at firebreathingcobra@yahoo or off of my personals page, i am a "herp hunter" or i work with a relocation service, but i am going to school to decive a degree in herpatology so feel free to e-mail me and ask anything, bout snakes, or other herps for that matter, but i would look in grassy fields or medows, in a deserted football field or other place like tht is prefect

You probably are not going to find those types of snakes around water. You need to try looking around barns, piles of wood or tin.
Basically anywhere that you think there would be a good constant supply of food.(mice, rats).Think about it.. barns have feed and grains.. The mice will eat the feed and the grains and will then attract the snakes. We found a clutch of ratsnakes around the base of an old tree stump in a backyard by an old garage once ( We are located in NW Alabama)
Snakes usually hide to feel secure, so an open grassy area probably won't be too promising an area .

Good Luck!

You will not find Kings and Rats... you will find corns in that area of the states. Do a few searches on the subject using the words, "Alabama snakes, herps, or reptiles." If you have no luck with that check out http://www.faunaclassifieds.com and post on the forum your question. Good Luck.... Happy Herping!

BTW... Herpetology is not spelled with an A Popeye.... POSER!

no you're not going to readily find those snakes around water... they don't spend too much time in those habitats... not that there's anything wrong with a nice mud or swamp snake some of them are beautiful... but kings, rats and corns, are going to be in the bushes or forest back up from the lake... not really on or too near the water itself. look in heaps of leaves, old log piles, felled trees, under logs and other things laying on the ground... etc...
