Plumbers can get water to an appliance and get it from an appliance once the appliance has used the water but they don't work on the appliance itself. The lions share of the electronics are best addressed by an appliance repair tech.

I use to work as a plumber (for a company). It is virtually impossible to carry every possible part for every type of dishwasher, and very hard to get some parts. I just shopped around myself when my dishwasher motor went, and brought a new dishwasher for $70 (after mail in rebates). You might want to contact an "appliance repair" center, they maybe able to help you more.Appliance repair centers carry most of the parts, or have scavenged parts (especially older models where the parts are no longer made) off of other dishwashers that were thrown out.

go to a place that sells appliances and services them -and see if they can shed some light on the problem, as a salesman myself dishwashers are fairly simple machines unless it is a high end digital control type. Expect to pay at least $50 for a repair man to come out , $30-$60 hour for labor plus the parts price. The price for a decent new machine can be as low as $300
sometimes they will include installation.

A plumber can install a new dishwasher and should be able to replace one as well but if you want one repaired you will need to find an appliance repair person. But, I also agree with the last answer, If it's more than 10 years old, replace it!!!!!

it depends on the age and availability of parts. some times it is best to just replace it. if it is 8-10 years look into a new unit

Sears will repair any brand of appliance. Plumbers don't do appliances.
