The strange thing is that my rh factor changed from negative to positive, then back to negative. The past few times it has been tested it continues to be negative. It came out positive 2 separate times, and the doctor re-tested to make sure. He was stumped. Has anyone ever heard of this?

You may be one of those rare people who is a Chimera. What that means, basically, is that you had a twin when your mom was pregnant with you, but early on your body absorbed you twin's body. The result is your body having two different sets of DNA. Have your doc do some testing for that and see what comes up. You may simply have both rh + and - blood.

Well thats odd. It is just like if you are Type A, B, O or AB..i mean it should be constant because this is very important in blood transfusion MOST especially if you are really NEGATIVE coz once an Rh positive is transfused, your body will recognize the Rh as a foreign thing and so will produce a defense against it. If you were tested just twice as positive, but mostly of the past 30 years you are negative, these are the following reasons I see:
1. Could be a clerical error or the laboratory technologist (that is what I am) failed to read it right. Because if I am correct, reading the result to bood typing test is subjective so the one reading this should be very careful. If they already did Direct agglutination why not try, Indirect ( just suggesting..people at laboratory knows how to run this test ).
2. Could be a wrong sampling or the reagents being used are already deteriorated. Please check labels and expiry date.
