The only possible way to do this is through your cell phone company. Some of them offer GPRS internet service - which basically allows you to use your cell phone as a modem. When you're travelling around you can't use hot-spots or unsecured Wi-Fi networrks...you'd just keep passing through them (if you found any at all) and the interruption in service would be frustrating.

You need to go to your cell phone provider and get a wireless card that works on their network. Any standard wireless internet card will only work in a hotspot where wireless internet is available. To have internet access anywhere, you need this network card.

providers like Verizon offer a high speed data connection(EVDO) over the cell network. It is offered over a PCMCIA card you plug into your laptop. This is a service that works just about everywhere in major centers at speeds up to 1-2 Mbit, elsewhere with cell network, you can get dial up speeds. Not exactly cheap, but does work in your car too.

Many cellular providers have data services that will include a GPRS/EDGE/1X/EVDO/whatever other cellular data service PCMCIA card. You can also connect a laptop to certain cellular phones via bluetooth or USB with the proper software and equipment. I'd talk to the local cellular providers.

Depending on your location, there are several companies that provide internet service in cellular format. Some of them are Verizon, Cingular, Alltel, and T-Mobile. They will also provide the "air card" modem that you will need. I use Alltel because that is all that is available in my area.
