Average rates for decent hotels in Ho Chi Minh City will be about $20-30 USD or 300,000-450,000 Vietnamese dong. I have stayed in several nice hotels but my favorite was the Saigon Royal Hotel - 12D Cach Mang Thang Tam, Q1. (tel:84.8 8228.842) e.mail: saigonroyal@hcm.vnn.vn The last time I was there was in July 2004 and paid about $20 USD for a room with 2 double beds and a balcony. This rate included breakfast in the revolving resturaunt on the roof of the hotel. The food was pretty good too. The Saigon Royal is in view of the New World Hotel, across the street from the Zen Plaza, a modern, up-scale fashion mall where you can also get western food items in a market on the top floor, and within a short walk to the Ben Tahn market - one of the most popular and famous all-in-one markets in Saigon (not to be missed). If you stay here, you will be in the heart of Saigon and only about 10k from Tan Son Nhat airport. The ammenities are not world class, but they are clean, comfortable and adequate. Each room has a combination safe, a/c, color TV with VN and English channels and a decent shower. If you want world class, then try the New World Hotel, the Rex, or the Intercontinental but expect to pay $70-200 USD/night. Another option would be the Dai Hua Hong hotel on Nguyen Ti Minh Kai and Tran Quoc Thao. I have stayed there as well and it is equally as nice as the Saigon Royal but their prices went up to around $35 USD/night for foreigners.

Vung Tau is the nearest beach to Saigon, about 1.5-2 hours away. I have never been there before but I hear it is nice. If you really want to relax and enjoy the beach, I suggest you go to Nha Trang, about 6 hrs by car or 1 hr by plane. Nha Trang is absolutely beautiful with mountains and ocean in the same view. You can experience all of the charm of old world Vietnam and modern conveniences of western culture in the same place. Nha Trang is a popular tourist destination for much of Europe so it is rather easy to get by if you don't speak VN but still has not become over run by tourists and maintains its true Vietnamese culture. I stayed in a hotel where the balcony overlooked the South China Sea to my left and the mountains to my right. It was picturesque and only $6 USD per night. It was clean and comfortable. Nha Trang also has a great deal of things to see and do, including scuba diving, jet skiing, exploring cham temples, delicious sea food, etc. etc.

Well! Vietnam has a lot of nice beaches in Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hoi An and Quang Binh. It can be said that Quang Binh Province has a best beach in Vietnam, just becuz the province is so poor, with a very tough climate there, people would be afraid of investing in this province. It is an unexplored places, with lots of natural picturesque scenery where tourism is developing.

So, the best beach you can go now is Nha Trang. The "must-thing" to do there is to book an island tour! there will be a kinda boat for you to go all over the islands of Nha Trang with some interesting games of the tour guide, an afloating bar , dancing party on the boat... If u're a Western, it would be very easy to stay there cuz there are lots of Western restaurant and u won't be afraid of being unfamiliar with the local cuisine. I would suggest the La Bella Napoli, it's quite good and reasonable..

Anyway,. have a great trip!

It depends on how much money you have.
In Ho Chi Minh there are lots of hotels of different kinds.

My advice is going to Nha Trang. It may take you about 4 hours to get there from Ho Chi Minh city but it's worth visiting hundreds of time.

I stayed at the Caravelle Hotel (www.caravellehotel.com) in the old city (Saigon) section of Ho Chi Minh City. The rooms were very comfortable and the staff was very friendly. It is right next to the Opera House, Notre Dame and the waterfront. Lots of activity, shopping and good restaurants right around the hotel.

I suggest you to stay at Hoi An Resort. it's not entirely on the beach, but it's close enough to get a good feeling. Another choise is the Ana Mandara Resort. My friends have been there once n they liked it a lot. Evason Hideaway & Spa is a good place too, but it's a bit more expensive than those 2 ive mentioned eariler.

Don't forget to go to Saigon if you'e fond of shopping. there're lots of beautiful souvenirs, handcrafts etc. well, thats all the info i got. you can check out the following links for more info tho.

without a doubt fly up to nha tran [ if you take an early morning flight out you can be siting at the beach by 11am] in nha tran stay at the "hong phuong" on nguyen thien thuat street[ clean, safe, cheap]& and a great location.] i could recomend "mui nhe"[ near phan thiet] it is a "swank/ flash resort area but theres not much to do there at night, and although its closer to sai gon it will take you much longer to get there. deffinatly , plane to nha trang. since you like the water yo might want to stat at the metropole on bui vien street , sai gon... it has a roof top swimming pool.. and its close to the back pack area[ night life/ resturants] and "benh thanh" market.. you can get a room there for about 40- 80us[ the back pack area has nice rooms in the mini hotels for a lot less. but in nha tran , deffinately the dong phuong [on nguyen thien thuat street].. always check out the rooms before you commit.[ "can i see the room please?".. the answer will always be yes]..PS dont take a car to nha trang.. it is every bit of a10 hr ride.. [ did it 4-5 times already] plane including ride to and from airports maybe $60us[ plane goes from sai gon to cam ranh.. then a 1hr bus to nha trang , its easy].. and yes as "suzilu" says go to "bella napoli" it is huong vuong street directly behind the dong phuong hotel.
