I don't understand why he is...sure he looks a bit girly and pretty..but he's not a gay icon...

A Dutch (could be wrong on the geography here) gay periodical named him the 2006 WC poster boy. That alone would not mean he is gay. However, I saw a publicity photo where he was wearing a t-shirt with two men on the front (two male symbols standing side by side). Purely speculation, probably not true...but I think these minor occurences add up to a hasty judgement.
Regardless--who cares? He's a fabulous player with a long, prosperous career ahead. Gay or not, he is cute and talented and very human in his reactions and emotions. If he turns out to be a gay icon, that would only increase my respect for his courage. He's 21 years old--I'm sure we'll see many years of professional and personal growth, some surprising and some expected. As a true fan of his futbol talents, I'm there all the way.
