Bob Gibson...in the sixties he was with the Cincinnati Red Legs. We shared the same last name. I spent 6 months convincing my bookkeeping teacher that he was my uncle. I lived in farm country of southeren Ohio and heard his name all the time. I was not a very special kid at school and wanted some attention and to be recognized for something. Mr. Wheeler asked me about Uncle Bob all the time and tried to discuss his good plays with me constantly. We played this back and forth , back and forth. The last week of school Mr. W. brought me his favorite baseball card. It was Bob Gibson! My uncle! The funny part of this learning experience is that I did not know Uncle Bob was a man of color. I am lilly white! It was quit funny as a running joke until the day I graduated high school. Moral of the story: I learned to be a special person on my own and not on the wings of others!

Tony Gwynn - not only was he one of the purest hitters ever to play the game, he and Ripken were the last players to stick with lousy teams even though they could have made more money elsewhere. Pure class and underrated despite the batting titles and gold gloves.

Though I am a Braves fan, my favorite is Ken Griffey Jr. I love the way he goes after balls in the outfield and he has the smoothest and classiest swing of the bat! He also seems to be fairly humble despite his Hall of Fame credentials!
