We have democratic elections, but unless you want a vote on everything, you won't have a true democracy. We have a hybrid democracy - A democratic republic.

It still amazes me how so many of the masses in our own country have been brainwashed and propagandized to believe America is and always has been a democracy. We are supposed to be a Republic which is quite different from a socialist, communist-based democracy. Red China, the former Soviet Union and East Germany used democracy as the basis of their government. I hear G.W. use the term so much in speeches it makes me cringe, but at least some of the answers you have from this question show that there are those that care, know, and even took the time to find out what you were really asking.
But still others show their utter ignorance. Lambs to the slaughter, laughing all the way to their own demise. They may never know the extent of the freedoms they give up everyday from the false fears of terrorists, illegal immigration, even hurricanes. When Marshall law is enforced in this country someday soon, they will probably see it as a good thing. I had some friends recently express a viewpoint which included how they welcomed wiretaps and surveillance on the population for "personal security." How's that for Patriotism? I'm extremely worried and often feel alone on this issue.
Thanks for at least asking the question.

If you agree to move to Red China and never come back, I will pay for your one way Air Fare. One less Communist in America would be a great thing.

Because they didn't listen in their social studies class in sixth grade. If they had listened, they would know we have a republic.
