Of all the answers posted here it seems as though tpuahlekcip is the only person who knows what is really going on. Ovulation does indeed occur about 14 days BEFORE your next period not 14 days after as many people have stated. The only reason it may seem as though it is 14 after your period is because many women have a 28 day cycle. For those with the 28 day cycle ovulation occurs about mid-cycle which is 14 days after the period or before the next period. Factually however, the ovulation actually occurs 14 before the period. If you have a slightly longer cycle and attempt to use the 14 day after your period you will probably never succeed because your ovulation could be on days 16-18 instead of 14. It is probably best if you start charting your cycle or if you already know the length, use ovulation predictor kits or a basal body thermometer. I also suggest you try to read Getting Pregnant : What you need to know right now by Niels H. Lauersen M.D., PhD, and Colette Bouchez. It is a very easy to read book with just the sort of info you seem to be looking for. I hope this helps you.

Always count Day One of your cycle as the first day of your period...I was really confused about this, too. Since different women ovulate at different times, try having sex every other day, starting with day 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20, or every day when possible. If you have really long cycles, like more than 30 days, you might want to have sex on days 22, 24, 26. Your most fertile time is right before you ovulate, when you have cervical fluid that looks like egg whites.

A great book on the subject is Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler if you have the time. Some say its the bible of conception!

Hope this helps.

You count from the first day it started. Not from the day it ended. With a 28 day cycle on the 13th and 14th day after is when you are most fertile. Depending on your cycle length.. But if you have a 29 or 30 day cylce you should count 10 -18 days before the 1st day of your next period. The consistency of your discharge also helps tell when you are fertile. As the hormones in your body change each cycle, so does your body's cervical fluid (CF). As your body approaches its most fertile time, this fluid (often called non-menstrual 'vaginal discharge') becomes thinner and more slippery. It is sometimes referred to at that time of your cycle as "egg white mucus" (sometimes seen as 'EWCM' in online conversations) because of its appearance and texture. Just as your cervical mucus changes during your cycle, so does the position of your cervix. The cervix is the lowest part of your uterus, extending into your vagina. It acts as a gate between the vagina and uterus, becoming softer, higher in the vaginal passage, more open, and wetter during a woman's fertile time. There are also secondary signs of approaching fertility that not all women experience, but which can provide additional information if detected. Some of the more common include: midcycle spotting; slight pain or discomfort in the pelvic region; increased sexual feelings; fuller vaginal lips; breast tenderness.

Try not to over stress about it either that can mess up you cycle. Relax and it will happen before you know it. Take it form a mother of three. When you stop trying, you get nailed it the face with it. We tried for months to conceive our second and third. The longest for the third,10 mos.of trying. When gave up on that and settled for the idea of having two boys, downsized to a two bedroom house to live on the base and WAMMO!!!!! 10 days (according to the ultra sound) after getting settled in our new tiny house, perfect for two boys, my baby girl was concieved. We went in a rat race trying back into a three or four bedroom home. Military housing sure didn't like it .

Hey There,

Its when your menstrual cycle ends. If you want more info, read below:

A woman's monthly cycle is measured from the first day of her menstrual period until the first day of her next period. On average, a woman's cycle normally is between 28-32 days, but some women may have much shorter cycles or much longer ones. Ovulation can be calculated by starting with the day THE LAST menstrual period (LMP) starts or by calculating 12-16 days from the next expected period. Most women ovulate anywhere between Day 11 - Day 21 of their cycle, counting from the first day of the LMP. This is what many refer to as the "fertile time" of a woman's cycle, because sexual intercourse during this time increases the chance of pregnancy.

Hope this helps!
Good luck....

My husband and I have been trying for 4 years now. Ovulation is 14-16 days from the first day of your period. There are ovulation test you can buy in the store, they come in boxes of 5 or less right next to the pregnancy test. Good Luck!! Also, sex first thing in the morning is probably the best.

From when it BEGAN. But here is another tidbit of advice: RELAX. Stress can and will affect your cycle. If the doc says all is okay, just relax, enjoy all the extra sex and you will get pregnant when it is YOUR time to get pregnant. I thought it would take me a year with my second, so I was very relaxed and unconcerned when I went off the Pill. I got pregnant the first time we did it with no protection...on our anniversary.

Believe me, once baby #2 arrives, you won't have as much time for intimacy, so relax and enjoy it. God has a plan for all of us!

Peace.

10-14 days when it began i suggest you use a rythm chart to get the best time...if u want to concieve the best time is during ur period besause the egg has rolled down from the fellopian tubes and is now in the uterus ready to be fertilized..

You start counting on the day that you get your period. So, the day that you get your period is day 1. If your period lasts for 5 days, you have about one more week until you are very fertile. Remember, sperm can live in a woman's body for about 3 days, while a woman is only fertile for about 1 day.

Personally, I can't tell for exactly. I would try 4 days after your period ends and keep going until the 15th day after your period ends. It depends on when you ovulate, you could ovulate sooner or later than the average.

Best of luck!!!

I think you count from when it began. Because if you count back from the start of your last period, you should be 2 weeks (14 days) after your last period. Does that make sense???
Good luck!
