I have removed the cover of external cdrw and connected spare wires from the system. Now both my old cd drive and new converted are not visible in the my computer folder.

Please advise the if any software is required

You can't really do that. While the internal ones are IDE/SATA, the external ones are generally USB. The case is there for a reason - to prevent the drive from overheating. You might just want to look for a cheap price on internal drive - they're going for next to nothing nowadays, search for it on some place like http://tech.yahoo.com

If the external CD-RW is just a regular drive in an external enclosure it should work.

Try checking the jumpers to make sure that one drive is on the cable is set as master(MA) and the other drive as slave(SL), or both as cable select(CS). Also check in the BIOS to make sure both the drives are being detected.
