I have had three ethernet cards in my computer and all of them have gone out. I went and got a new one and my computer is not even recognizing it is there.

So they all worked at one point? Maybe it's like an old Christmas tree light--if one's broke, nothing works. Or, could be the motherboard. Or maybe the drivers are not installed properly? Or maybe one's conflicting with the other? I know computers have addresses allocated for devices, and that a certain interval is reserved for certain types. Maybe two are trying to use the same port. Try taking one out. In any case, assuming its not the motherboard, I'd probably buy a router. Why hog all your PCI ports? You may need one...

If you have had all three cards in the same pci slot, the slot could be bad, and that is what is causing the cards to go bad. You may want to try the cards in a different computer first to make sure the slot isn't just malfunctioning and not actually shorting out the cards. If the cards are bad, you probably need to get a new PC or check your wiring to make sure you don't ruin anymore cards.

I don't think I have ever heard of a pci slot shorting out cards though.

Bad circuits on the motherboard?

The only Ethernet card that I had go out on me was a cheap noname one, so maybe low quality card as well?

Have you tried switching the pci slots you have been putting the card in? If it is still a prob, it is probably the board.
