People don't understand that the definition you just gave is not really Gothic. That gothic is actually a good genre of music featuring the likes of Bauhaus and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Modern day "goths" just steal the label as an excuse to listen to bad metal such as Slipknot and Korn and be a*sholes to anyone not dressed like them.

I know I'm generalizing. You fit the modern stereotype. You can't complain.

People determine what type of person you are before they even meet you. You could have the greatest personality but if you're not dressed like you're approachable, most people won't bother trying to get to know you. Sad, really. I don't think there's anything wrong with people dressing goth, or being goth, it's just a form of expression and if you're comfortable doing it, go for it.

Just like the person above said: stereotypes.

If you a boy/girl with some wash-up t-shirt, baggy pants and converse... a punk kid. If you see the same boy/girl with an extra large sports suite, jewelry and a baseball cap... a gettho wannabe.

PS: I hate stereotypes, specially if people want to "force" you into dressing/acting in the certain way they'd expect you to, according to your race/place where you live/profession/... gender!!!

Poeple like to stereotype everything and everyone. It's become so common in our society that some poeple don't even realize they are doing it.
