Many psychologists consider the Humanist concept of "self- actualization" to be more of a motivational tool than an actual, achievable goal. Maslow's original "pyramid" was drawn upside-down, signifying that, as you fulfill each level in the pyramid, the potential problems and obstacles that may keep you from getting to the next level increase greatly. The higher the level, the more abstraction involved in fulfilling those needs. The road to self-actualization is ideally puctuated with "peak experiences" (positive, life-changing experiences). Peak experiences help you to move through the hierarchy more efficiently because we tend to want to repeat them, so they help us sort through the trivial or non-significant obstacles by mere comparison.
Personally, I believe that there are people out there who may be close to self-actualization. However, it may be impossible to really know if they have achieved it, because the judgement would be made by another person...and probably by a person who admires them.

nah..i'm still in the selfish acceptance stage.
i'm in the i need love, affection and group association part.
i think self actualization is when you aren't self obsorbed, obsessed and selfish. its also when you are giving more to the community than to yourself. and have found your place in the world.
most people never reach that stage. its reserved for only a few who wish to see beyond themselves and embrace others.

You don't learn everything there is to be learned ever. The purpose of self-actualixation is to accept what you are in the standing of the universe and it's grand scheme. You would understand that if you ever acheived self-actualization..
