They have a natural instinct to be afraid of hawks. If you have a problem with wild ducks (sometimes they try to nest in people's yards and swim in their pools) you could put a fake hawk up on a pole. I haven't seen any of those sold, you might have to make one, but I've seen a lot of houses with fake owls on them, you could probably find those at a garden / landscaping supply store.
