There's a difference between patriotism and nationalism. Nationalism is devotion to your country above all just because it is the country of your origin. Patriotism is when you support and love and defend your country because you believe in its ideals.
I'd rather be a patriot than a blind nationalist.
I believe that the Country X is a nation of great ideals and principles, and that those make us great. And I want to work towards those ideals and principles, because we don't have them fully enacted yet. This is patriotism.
Not recognizing that there are things that need fixing, and saying we're great anyway, is a form of blindness and a part of the symptoms of being a nationalist.

Patriotism has more to do than being born somewhere.
It envelopes the foundations, the history, the lives sacrificed, and everything that country stands for.
This is why, it is so very hard for Veterans, who gave all they had, and there families and elderly friends, to see this great nation fall into the horrid state of moral decline that it has...
True Independence is a gift of God....
True Patriots fight to keep it!

Sounds suspect to you?! Why don't you have pride in the country your born in? Maybe you should learn more about the country before you suspect anything.

There are two kinds of patriotism:
-- loud and self-aggrandising patriotism that excludes other nations and cultures from being considered interesting and of value
-- quiet pride in one's country and its accomplishments which allows for interest and participation in other ways of being.
The first kind is a sad insecure way of existing. The second is a positive reflection of self-esteem.

if your proud of the fact you live in what ever country you do for any reason what so ever then its ok correct? patriotism is you being proud of where you come from, not because its great but because its part of who you are and where you come from, if you dont have that then you are not patriotic to your coountry, its not wrong to think of the bad things in your country, but its ok too look at the good things and be happy that they are partly yours

Yes. Most people in the US have never lived in any other country so they don't really know if its the greatest country or not.

I suppose you are asking this question globally.........
