check out control panel ... appearance and themes.. display ... power.. settings

it sounds like your computer is not really turned off but in hibernation or sleep mode.
some software may be set to update itself through the internet
when the computer is not in use .

I found out about this because when my computer did this.
my comptuer was not really turned off but set to hibernate
until someone used the mouse. and the vibration from things like the air conditioner and a garbage truck kept turning my computer back on.

pulling the plug in and out is hard on the power cord.
plug the power cord into a surge protector and
after you have shut down windows from the start..turn off computer choice
then turn the power switch on the surge protector off

that Is creepy. maybe a defective motherboard? the power box on the case stores the power, then transfers it to the mainboard, which is what is used to turn the thing on and off.. So, either your case is screwy--about a 40 dollar fix if you can replace it yourself--or the mainboard is screwey--about a 60 dollar fix, if you can find one for that old of a processor. try gently pounding the on button a few times.. maybe it's stuck?? but after reading through, probably is a windows, BIOS, virus, or software thing that's telling the machine to boot up.

lol. my computer used to do the same thing. i hated it! So i just started unplugging my pc before i went to bed. but today I was cleaning up my computer when i came across this option that set my updates for 3am. so i changed it to 1pm. im assuming anytime there was an update my computer would turn itself on so it could download it. if u need any information on what option this is just email me at simulater10@hotmail.com and ill try to relocate it. im using winxp, so it's somewhere on your controls.

Check in the bios. I know mine has a setting under power options to boot at a specific time. Did you buy it new? or is it used. Someone else might have had that set.

maybe you have played with your "power options" its in the control panel

you can set it to go to sleep after times when you feel like not using it anymore

it will say "OK nobodys touched the keyboard for a while" and it will get bored, and open the fridge for a few drinks. sometime later in the day it will go to bed.

then later......

it decides its time to be awake

and BAM , it is

its science dude

pure, unadulterated, science!

Wow! That's freaky! Me thinks you've got a gremlin. It's the same one that hides stuff from you so you will never find it...in the lost and found boxes in the local schools.

Check for a comp virus, and if that doesn't work call the comp company there might be a problem and it's best to fix it early.

I would do a thorough virus scan...it might be doing this. In the meantime, try unplugging it!
