People watch TV to escape there own life. I myself am a avid TV watcher, and I always put myself in the characters shoes imagining what life would be like if that where me. TV was invented to bring news and some entertainment across a massive stage, but what its done is currupted an entire nation and polluted people to a certain point of no return. I do apperiat tv and its great shows, but there is so much more people could be doing then sitting on there *** infront of the picture box.

It is a vibrant part of the American culture. The routine for million of us is to go home after work, wash, eat and watch TV. Count me off the million, I am not really a TV watcher.

The answer to this question varies with each person watching it.
My mother put us in front of the television so we would be entertained and she would not have to watch us. I have been hooked on television since I was very young.
I find television can teach me, give me experiences I could never get any other way, relax me, entertain me, give me something to do to prevent boredom, allow me to get my mind off all the stresses in my life, give me something to talk about with my peers, my family and my colleagues, give me a way to re live my childhood memories, help me go to sleep, give me the latest news, traffic or weather, music, or help me wake up.
I have never underestimated the value of the sounds and pixels on the cathode ray tube in my room. Television has also expanded my vocabulary, my fashion sense, my appreciation for the arts, and let me know which movies are worth seeing.
(I hope Roger Ebert is feeling better.)
That is my answer.

Because watching television is an especially well-loved (and inexpensive) utilisation of what scientists call "passive-leisure time" and according to the results of a study published in the June 30 issue of journal Science, access to passive-leisure time is positively correlated with personal happiness. Simple, straightforward, and MAKES SENSE TO ME. The results of the study revealed that
…higher income had less of a correlation with momentary happiness than with overall life satisfaction.
"If people have high income, they think they should be satisfied and reflect that in their answers," said study team member Alan Krueger, an economist from Princeton University. "Income, however, matters very little for moment-to-moment experience."
More chores, less fun
Krueger and colleagues also looked at data from a Bureau of Labor Statistics survey to see how people in different income brackets spent their time.
What they found was that those with higher incomes had more chores and less fun.
They devoted more time to working, commuting, childcare, and shopping and were under more stress and tension than those in lower income brackets.
According to government statistics, men who make more than $100,000 a year spend 19.9 percent of their time on passive leisure activities such as watching television and socializing. Meanwhile, men whose annual income were less than $20,000 spent more than 34 percent of their time dedicated to passive leisure…

I couldn't tell you the day of the week and time of 1 stinking show on television.
Women comedians are not funny.
Black comedians are obsessed with white people.
Sitcoms have 1 fat dude and 1 hot wife.
Cop shows abuse the rights of people.
Lawyer shows are abusive to people, and the criminal always talks.
Black shows are for the stupidest people in society.
J.A.G. and other military shows are a bunch of hardasses trying to be hardasses.
CSI shows: their is ALWAYS someone there to add that critical obscure piece of the unsolvable equation. ALWAYS! WTF?

Just like books, television allows the viewer to experience and connect with other people. The difference is that it is more visual and easier to picture.
