What does that actually mean? Most people are not ready for any change, unless it benefits them, until it is forced on them. Was America ready to end slavery? ...no way. Were they ready for interracial marriages...uh uh. But when interracial marriage was made legal nationally (1967) a majority of people did not agree with it. They believed "If God had wanted the races to mix He wouldn;t have put them on seperate continents". How ignorant is that?

But the fact remains that a time came when society WAS FORCED to change it's ways because an entire group of people were being denied rights based on ignorance and fear. This is just another struggle that we will overcome. But struggle we must because noone is going to change until they have to.

Is America ready for gay marriage...not the fearful or ignorant ones. But the rest of us are. Just because some people don;t agree with it, doesn;t mean it shouldn't be. There are still people today who believe interracial marriages " go against nature". Sad but true.

America does what the politicians with the most influence tell America its going to do. If someone told us all 50 states would legalize gay marriage tomorrow, then yeah, we'd be ready - but only because we're ALWAYS ready to listen and be told what we're going to do. Since our community has not politically gone out there and attacked this issue with a hard enough blow to make it a reality in all 50 states, no I do not believe we are ready. We'll be ready once we've amassed the amount of support it is going to take to make this become a reality for everyone who wants it. We could do that, we just haven't. Heck, I know gay people who don't agree with gay marriage. So no, we are not ready right now. ...Sorry - loads of sarcasm there...

Well it's good to see Bible Bimbo Julia is consistant in her ignorance, Child, when will you learn.....Jesus was a Drag Queen (Christ just laughed 'cause he got the joke)

As for the Question at hand, sadly you are not ready for it. Americans, at least the Red ones, are too bigoted and frankly to ignorant of what freedom means. You see, to conservatives, freedom means Straight, Christian and usually white, although Julia may be the exception to that rule. In my country, even with a conservative in power, we have gay marriage and guess what, the following did NOT happen: The end of the world, Fire and Brimstone falling from the sky, the end of civilization, cats and dogs screwing around, churches crumbling.

Oh yes, I must also point this out to all good ol' "Christians" out there, if God, Blessed be His Name, really hated gays as much as you say, consider this: Canada has Gay Marriage and Equality of Gays in its law and constitution. Now America does not have any of this yet America gets the Hurricanes, the Earthquakes, the Floods and all sorts of nasty disasters. Come to think of it, so do other "Religious" countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, it makes you wonder who God in really punishing and why.......hmmmmmmm ....... but I digress

Some day, America will remember what it stands for, Truth, Justice and Equality for all, but consider that people like Julia were property up until just a century or so ago; and the reasoning for that was also from the Bible, so take that into consideration. The time will come, but not until all those who profess true love for their fellow man start praticing what they pretend to preach.

Can I get an AMEN!

Yes. Some (conservatives) don't appear to be but I think, just like the black/white equality issue a few decades ago, America needs to be forced into realizing that GLBT individuals are NOT going away. They fall in love. They have children. They should be allowed to marry.

Too bad for those too scared to allow that idea in their minds. The gay community is not a threat to anyone. We all need to worry about more important things, things that actually threaten the world such as the war, AIDS crisis in Africa, global warming, etc. Not whether or not two people love each other. What's wrong with love?

America isn't ready for straight marriages, that's why the divorce rate is so high. What makes you think gay marriages will be any different?

I agree with sweetcandy!

I think that it's selfish that people say that somebody can't get married, but that's just me. I don't think America is ready to allow gay marriage. But maybe someday. But that might just be the hope talking.

Polls indicate not but they also indicate America is for gay unions. I fail to see a problem with two people regardless of gender who love one another and have made a committment to have the same rights as married couples. And there are some churches who will and do accept gays, so there is not a problem with religion entering there and many gays are christian.

gay marriage will maximum probably take position in those states that vote for it. My merely excellent wager may be California and Florida first. i'd opt to assert vast apple to boot. some thing else of u.s. gained't be waiting. i imagine it is going to take twenty years or extra for it to be extra significantly conventional. 10 hours later: properly reported Kedar! As a Canadian our society did not fall down with the addition of gay Marriage. One study truly got here upon a "era hollow" in approval rankings. The elders were adversarial to it and the more youthful to center elderly were really a lot unanimously in favour of gay marriage! So there. even as the more youthful era is center elderly there'll be no issue interior of america. it really is why I guessed twenty years and that i wish i'm excellent.

No! America is not ready for gay marriages. It is terribly interrupting and distorting the minds of those who are any where near confused and making them choose something that is totally against God word.
I cannot see myself saying congratulations to a gay couple or even trying to explain to my child about this horrible act of sin!!
America is not ready to change documentations, medical and any other forms that is usually geared to a maaried couple of a male and female sex.

Ready for the gay marriage, indeed not!

Yes, America is ready. No, the Americans aren't. Fortunately, the first part is the relevant part. I fail to see how we can continue in good concience to deny basic civil rights to this group of citizens. I cannot help but view with mixed amusement and dismay the number of people who believe, based on majority rule or religious belief or both, that gay marriage should not be allowed.
Not so long ago, a majority of Americans believed that racial segregation was acceptable. Ditto denying women the right to vote. And the same for outright slavery, just over a century ago. Over time, I believe the wisdom of changing these policies, each dearly held by a majority somewhere, has shown itself over and over. Indeed, preventing this "tyranny of the majority" was anticipated by our founding fathers when they set up the Senate opposite the House of Representatives. Just because an idea is held by the majority does not guarantee that it is a just idea. Civil unions are a civil right.
The objections on religious beliefs are more tragic and disturbing to me. This country was founded primarily by colonists seeking freedom from religious persecution. We are allowed in this country, each of us, to believe as we wish. Is gay marriage against your beliefs? That's fine, if it is, but clearly it's not against theirs. Have we, as a country, allowed ourselves to come full circle into allowing religious bigotry to become the law of the land? In that case, would our belief in freedom allow them to secede and form a countryof their own, and support them wholeheartedly in the effort to be free of persecution?
