they don't. i saw this on a documentary that when they study the magma what they do is connect a cable to a hammer basically. they thew it in the lava and then after pulling it out cooled it and stuck it in a bucket. that's all then took it to study it.
I'm guessing they don't study it hot anywhere else other then at the volcano due to the fact that it would be expensive to make a container for it and second is they would have to keep it hot for it to stay as lava. that would take extrema heat to keep hot.

They don't put it into a container they dip something with a high melting point into the lava and remove it (like a thick iron chain). The lava solidifies on the object as it cools and then it can be analyzed. Lava cools quickly after it is exposed to the air. This is why pumice can float; the lava solidified so quickly that it trapped air bubbles inside it.

A high heat tolerant ceramic crucible.
They don't usually keep it liquid, most of the time they pour it into water to form obsidian so they can study the trapped gasses. They can analyze it's contents at leisure and in air conditioned comfort by conventional methods.
Although some hardcore vulcanologists can give a pretty good guess about the lava's chemical composition from the way it flows at whatever temperature it is based on previous samples.

Lava starts to gets hard right when it hits air so they dont keep it hot. they study it right at the geographical site or just study the hardened lava "rock" in a laboratory. But when they get a sample, they have a long metal spoon made from high tempurature tolerable metal which is an alloy that consists of more than one metal to make it "stronger" or "more tolerable to heat". Cause you cant get too close without the right protective clothing.

They don't.
Valconologist either study lava flows, which is like watching a river flow by. Or they take samples by dipping iron hammer heads into the flow and letting thit cool, they then study the cooled rock to determine it's make up.

Scientists like to hold it in a lava pit. Sometimes they will also use a lamp.
