so... since i am in AMERICA, why is the option not "thank you for calling ___. blah blah blah blah blah blah" and at the end "for other languages, press 1." then, after they press 1, "for spanish, press 1. for chinese, press 2, for japanese, press 3..." spanish isnt the only other language spoken in america.

why should i even have to press ANYTHING for a language

that's nothing girl. i called a company one time that started in spanish and then went to english. (in spanish) it said 'to continue in spanish press 1'..then it said 'english press 2'. it wasn't a small company either, it was a large corporation(like dell, nextel, etc) ouch.

the population of a state only has to reach 3%, then that language must be recognized.

i realize the need to accept other languages in this country and i have no problem with that, but they also need to respect that english is the first language. if they want to come here, and be american, and have the advantages we do, they need to assimilate themselves into our population as well. they can keep their culture, and their first language, but at least learn english as well.

don't make me feel like a foreigner in my own country.

Most 1st and 2nd world countries around the world have recognized first languages and then second languages too. Canada recognizes French along with English. Switzerland recognizes Italian and French along with German.

Why do so many Americans have such a tough time accepting Spanish? Nearly 20% of our population is Hispanic. They are a part of our nation.

Yes, that's why you press 1 and not 2.
