Not a dumb question - you are trying to learn something worth learning about - HURRAY!
It can do either. It depends on how much milk is the breast and how much pressure is being put on the breast. If you are full of milk, it can leak and make a huge wet spots on your shirt (embarassing sometimes).
It is MUCH healthier for both mom and baby. Check out the link below and keep asking intelligent questions! :-)

Well, That's not a dumb question at all. The truth is, a lot of woman don't really know HOW it comes out until we actual start breast feeding. You would think that breast milk would come out of only one little hole, but actually their are several small holes on each breast. And for your questions about it dribbling or squirting. Well, that truly depends on how long it's been sense the last feeding (or pumping) Woman a lot of the time leak breast milk that's why we need to wear breast pads. Also, if it has been forever since the last feeding, if your breasts are touched (even slightly) this can cause them to squirt. It's all very interesting what your body can do. I hope I answered your question alright. If you wan more information you can got to the LaLeche League's website. Have a nice night!

When a baby is feeding it's sucked out, like a bottle. When the baby starts sucking then the woman gets sort of a feeling of relief in her chest, thats called her milk letting down. Now if it was like a man or something sucking on it,it may not come out,or not as easy as having your baby there....they say when a mother is pumping it's sometimes hard for them to get milk out,but having your baby on your lap or even smelling a blanket of your babies helps the milk come out.Thats why women who are breastfeeding where those pads in they're bra's,even hearing another baby cry in a store,or thinking about yours when it's not around can make the milk dribble out. It'll squirt out if you squeeze your breasts...lol Dont worry your not being gross.

It depends. There are a number of pores in a woman's nipple; milk comes out of all of them at once. It takes a minute or several at the beginning of a feeding before the milk starts flowing, then it squirts out with a lot of force; even if the baby stops nursing, the milk will shoot out. Later in the feeding, it comes out more slowly, and will stop almost immediately when the baby stops.

Some people think that breastmilk comes out of one hole in the nipple, but after having my baby, I soon discovered the truth. The truth is that there are ducts in the breast that release breastmilk through about 3 to 5 "holes" in each breast nipple. After the baby is born, the breasts go into action and produce breastmilk. The breasts get engorged and milk can leak out or yes, you can squirt it out!
Ya learn somethin' everyday!

When the baby latches on it stimulates the mother's brain to release oxytocin and prolactin. These hormones cause the milk ejection relfex, or "let down". Once let down occurs the milk squirts out quite forcefully. It's a shame you haven't seen anyone nurse their baby before...I bet you've seen babies getting fed bottles :( Breastfeeding is so much better. Learn all you can now so you can do it when you have babies....good luck!

Your nipple has little pores and it comes out through the pores. If a woman has a lot of milk it will squirt out, less milk it will drip if you squeeze the breast. Also each woman is different so you just have to experience this for yourself.

Well right now I'm 21 weeks with one baby and I have colostrum but only in my left breast and two of my cousins had twins and one had the milk at around 7 months and the other didint have any milk until her babies were born. I guess everyones differant. Maybe it depends on how many pregnancies you've had.

I m preg. (wife here) anyway I did not know this either. I went googling why my nipples have a crust. but it was not like a crust I thought a part of my nipple got enlarged and hardened and begin to fall off like dust and it stung a little (not bad like I figured it was where the milk will come out and that Maybe a protective layer come off) so I was scared a bit and no one talks about the human body in our family. if it was not for schools I would not know what a period is and would think I was dying when I got my first one. Grandma got that scare as a little girl. but they don t teach anything in school about body parts excet sexual ones and where I m from no body wants to answer questions but will jump to say just don t have sex.
anyway so I googled it but no one said anything like my situation they said think like leak (mine are not leaking at least not where my shirt is getting wet or anything like that). they said scabbing (again mine felt like they ran deep inside). So I googled how does milk come out of breasts? your question caught my eye and taught me lots with peoples answers.
I tought it was like a baby bottle having just one little hole. I kept pulling at it trying to find a hole. LOL no hole. but its got pores and that s why when it leaked very very little (and I had been thinking about my baby allot today) it hardened while still kinda inside the pores. nothing to worry about! haha
Its not that I saw bottle feeds or never saw breast feeding. I ve seen both. but I did not see nipples and how they work. I was brought up with my grandma anyway so I was bottled feed and of course she never talked about this.
One can see breastfeeding but not know about it. Unless we ask AND someone actually answers we will not know. unless we get preg. and just find out. but it is better to learn our body before hand. and you can t trust schools to teach.
"don t let your schooling get in the way of your education. If you want beers girls and parties go to college, if you want an education go to the library." btw I go to college for a degree but the teachers still send me to the library to learn anything. they just grade the papers and determine if you get a degree. this is in general of course. some teachers do go the extra mile.
