It is meat, commonly steak that has been put through a mincer. It is used as 'poor mans meat' but not solely by poor men. Many mince pies can be made from it and they are delicious.

You'll get a lot of answers on this because there are a lot of correct answers. Mincemeat usually (but not always) contains ground up bits of meat. It usually has an array of spices that goes into it, they can vary widely. Sometimes orange peels or something similar is included. Usually it's sweet and also tart. Mincemeat can be a whole lot of different recipes.

MINCEMEAT IS ALSO A COMBINATION OF RAISINS AND SPICES AND SOME OTHER THINGS THAT I DON'T REMEMBER. AROUND THANKSGIVING SOME USE IT TO MAKE PIES AND FRUITCAKES.
