That happens to me a lot and it's a little creepy. It's some kind of 6th sense, I don't know. Maybe it has some weird scientific explanation that no one has ever actually looked into.

First, the feeling is often wrong. But when it isn't and you "feel" someone staring at you, chances are, you noticed it out of the corner of your eye but it was subconscious and then you "got the feeling", turned around, and sure enough, someone WAS staring at you. Of course, in a room full of people, if you turn around someone is probably looking right at you at that specific second and you think that he/she has been doing it for a long time when actually, it was a momentary thing. Bottom line, most people aren't staring at other people unless the person they're staring at is seriously strange -- wearing one high heel shoe and one flat one/wearing purple hair and an orange dress/etc. Most people are so concerned about themselves and what other people think about them, they don't have time to spend a lot of time staring at others.

Not everyone can feel the crowd staring at them; only the paranoid have this special quality. They can sense people staring at them even when the crowd is looking elsewhere.

I believe it all goes back to "racial memory" when as cave people we would be constantly aware of possible danger from animals or others. You can sense this. Why do people gather round a fire eveen if its not cold?
