Slip-N-Slide Records, which houses artists like Trick Daddy and Trina, is saying farewell to Atlantic Records and hello to a multi-million dollar deal with Def Jam.

Under the new deal, announced Wednesday [February 8] by Slip-N-Slide (SNS) President/CEO Ted "Touche" Lucas, the label will introduce a roster of new artists including rapper Rick Ross who will release his debut album, Career Criminal this summer.

Lucas explained why he chose Def Jam as a distribution partner, highlighting their level of respect for SNS. "We met with every major label head across the country," he said in a statement, "but the level of respect that Def Jam showed for Slip-N-Slide was priceless. Jay-Z saw Slip-N-Slide's vision and was willing to do everything in his power to make that vision a reality."

While Trick Daddy and Trina will keep recording for Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic, Lucas says SNS will aggressively seek out new talent for the Def Jam venture. "Our past artists are Floridians," he said. "This venture will allow us to form a cartel of new artists from other regions." Keeping with that idea, another of SNS's artists to join the Def Jam roster will be Atlanta rapper, Citty, whose debut, Da Cookie Man, bows later this year.
