I already have a myspace page but want a buzz in my city. I'm a commercial rapper trying to establish a buzz.

You need to perform live as much as possible. See if clubs in your area have open mic night, or send a demo to places to see if they'll book you. Be persistent. Ask the same places as many times as necessary - eventually, they'll give you a chance. When you perform, make sure you have as many friends there as possible (to cheer!). Also, try to have copies of your music on hand. Handing out free demo CD's at a performance might be a good idea. Folks will throw away a flyer, but they won't throw away a CD. A demo CD would also let people hear your music more than once and hopefully get "hooked" on you. Make sure your myspace address is on the CD, so they can visit your myspace page to find out when your next performance is. Then, they can come see you again (and cheer!). The more people you have cheering for you, the more popular you will seem to new folks. Everyone likes a winner, so many folks will jump on your bandwagon ("Ooh, who is this guy? Everyone seems to like him? What, you have a CD of him? Where can I get one?...etc. etc. etc.).

So, in sum:
1) Live performances, as many and as often as possible.
2) Free music demo with web address on the CD.
3) Frequently updated website

Hopefully, once you have a cult following, you can begin soliciting record companies to produce your music.

Good luck!

My advice is to go to several record studios and give them a demo tape or cd, and tell your friends to spread the word around.
