It could be a bad mouse. Have you tried another mouse to see if that helps? Also, I know this sounds obvious but what about checking the back of the PC to make sure that the cable is securely fastened.
Hope this helps,

If it is an USB mouse you could try using it in another port. If it is a PS/2 mouse you can make sure you have the latest software/drivers for the mouse.

a lot of times the driver may not be installed. You can unplug it from the computer and reinsert it after you reboot. The autodetect funtion in windows should get it going again. If the mouse is actually broken u may need a new one. It isnt uncommon for mice to break. They are abused.

Try making sure it is plugged into the back of your computer, if it is not, plug it into the approriate slot. The restart your computer. If it is, push it in to make sure it hasn't slipped out some. Then restart your computer. If it still doesn't work you may need to buy a new mouse! Good Luck!

If its a usb mouse, simply unplug it and re-connect it. If its a PS2 mouse, make sure that its connected to the right port and firmly connected then restart your computer.

Install any drivers that may have come with the mouse. If there are none (or it doesn't work) then buy a new one.
