Hi there.

I am resigning from my current job but i don't know how to write a resignation letter, and yes i am plenty old enough to know how to, but i just have never written or really seen one before.

Can someone please write out an example of how it shoul be written.
The most accuratly (not rushed) written entry will win 10 points.
Thanks a lot for that.
By the way, this is not like a MacDonalds job or something, its actually a proper full time (career) job.

thank you.

On mine, I wrote something like this

Today's date

Dear Boss (name),

It is after much soul searching that I am giving notice that I intend to resign my position as (job title) as of (date in at least 2 weeks- mm/dd/yy)
Thank you for the opportunity that you have given me. I have learned so much from you and appreciate the (help, encouragment, mentoring, education, etc) that you have given me. (since I also went to college on my co's tuition, I thanked them for that as well).

I ended it by stating that I hope that they will be happy for me in my new opportunity, and that if they ever need my help in the future don't hesitate to ask.

I also told them that I was moving out of the area, which is why I left, although you don't necessarily have to tell them why you are leaving if you don't want to.

Sincerely,

Your name

By doing it this way, you thank them for their help, ask for their support, and leave the door open should you return. Always give them a written date you are leaving (at least 2 weeks, not more than 4) In most states if they don;t let you work out your notice, they still have to pay you for it. I sure was wishing they would have walked me out the door like they did to other ppl:-) but sadly, I worked my notice.

Good luck, I hope this makes sense and helps you :-)

I can tell you enjoy your current job. If you didn't, you would give them the finger and be out.

This is what I did for the last job I enjoyed and left:

I told my manager in private that, while I thoroughly enjoyed working there, it was time for me to move on for XYZ reasons. I then put it in writing.

"Dear Boss,

I have truly enjoyed working here and working for you. The experience that I gained is beyond what one could wish for.

I regret to say, that after X years, I need to move on to another opportunity.

Say some great things about the boss (even if they are lies...you will need him/her as a reference).

Very Sincerely,

ME
