I have a fetal heartbeat doppler, and I was wondering how far along I needed to be in order to hear or detect the baby's heartbeat with it. It is 3.0 mhz and it has a digital screen that shows the heartrate. It just came to me today and I wasn't expecting it for another few weeks. I am about 8 weeks pregnant. I was curious, so I decided to try it, but I have no idea what I heard or saw on the display screen. I did detect a heartbeat that was 160 something, but it didn't last very long. Once I heart the sounds of a heart beating but it appeared to be slower than the rate that was displayed. The 160 something readings that I got didn't last long. I honestly don't know if I detected the baby's heartbeat or what. I know my heart doesn't beat at 160 or so beats LOL. What do you all think?? Thanks.

I heard my sons at approx. 12 wks,and that was just with one of the walmart Bebe sounds with headphones,no monitor.Though I heard mostly just his kicks, you should be able to detect your babies heartbeat pretty soon here with your high-tech one I'd think. Maybe you did hear your babies heartbeat....awesome feeling huh? Your babies heartbeat is faster than yours, and he/she could have been moving around which may be the reason why it didnt last very long.Did your heartbeat doppler come with any information? Good luck and hope you have a wonderful pregnancy.

I've heard they are crap and dont work well until later in the 3rd trimester. IMO they are all a waste of money, and should be pulled off the market, they should only be used by trained medical professionals, if you don't find the babys heartbeat you will instantly panic and think somethings wrong when 9 times out of 10 everything is just fine. Save your money, so long as baby is moving good you dont need to hear the heartbeat to know they are in there. They are not as easy as they look...and no where near as good as the medical dopplers.

Hello, i just bought myself a fetal doppler although I haven't received mine yet i looked up how far along and all that! You can start detecting the fetal heart beat at 8-9 weeks but doctors recommend renting (or buying) a doppler at 12 weeks because you will get readings easier etc. it could be several things you are hearing such as blood rushing or the actual heartbeat is most commen but you can also hear hiccups and movements! A rushing wind-like sound is audible from the placenta. Hope this helps!

I am at almost 10 weeks. My Dr and I heard my baby's heartbeat through the ultrasound at 7 1/2 weeks. It was also at 160 beats per minute and he said it was right on!
Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

Sometimes a heart beat can be heard at about 7 weeks but it is usually from the 9-10 weeks. try putting the doppler at your low abdomen almost near your pubic bone area, try to be patient while your doing it. A heart rate of 140-160 is an excellent heart rate rhythm for a baby at this time of the pregnancy.
